Sculpture notes

1. Three dimensional: Has width, depth, and length. It  has volume.

2. Form is three dimensional. It has length, width and depth. Forms can be geometric or organic. It is an element of design.

3. Sculpture techniques: 

  • a. Subtractive: To carve away material, examples would be  Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse.
  • b. additive Method: Building, examples would be Statue of  Liberty work done by Alexander Calder.

4. Abstract Art: Based on an idea or real object, but simplified or distorted. The main idea is caught and unnecessary details are eliminated.

5.  Non-representational or Non-objective design is based on design . The emphasis is based on the elements and  principals of art. Like how balanced are  the  shapes, lines, texture, ect. The art does not have an identifiable subject.

6. Artists we will study: Alexander Calder, Henry Moore, Jesus Bautista Moroles, Michelangelo, Claes Oldenburg and sculptures represented in the Minneapolis sculpture garden.
